Roger Duane Davis, age 74, passed away Friday, March 29th, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born in Robinson, Illinois on October 21st, 1944 to Duane Frederick Davis and Rayetta Wilson Davis.
Roger was the beloved husband of Judy Woodward Davis for more than 52 years and they built an incredible legacy together. Roger was the father of three children: Laura Davis (Jamie McMaster), Amy Davis Wells, and Grant Davis (Jaime Metzger). Through his children, he was the incredibly proud Papa of six amazing grandchildren: Sammi (Brenden), Davis (Brendon), Mackenzie, Abby, Shea, and Sydney. His life’s passion was to spend as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren serving as a wise and constant supporter of everything they loved. Roger was the eldest of three siblings. His sister Karen Davis Vackert and brother Greg Davis still survive.
Roger valued education. After graduating from high school he worked full-time and took classes in the evenings and weekends until he earned his B.A. in Business from Findlay College in June 1973. He spent his business career guiding others as a Human Resources Manager at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. Roger also was devoted to developing not only his family but also the community. He spent several years working with the Hancock Soccer Association and was deeply proud of his involvement with the Hancock County Mental Health Clinic serving as a member of the Board of Directors from 1978-1985. He served as the President of this board from 1981-1983. One of his proudest accomplishments, during his time with the board, was when they revamped the old children’s home on North Main Street and transformed it into a facility to provide mental health services to the community.
Roger was a passionate photographer, an avid reader, loved traveling, and sharing Michigan sunsets with his family.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, April 3rd from 3 to 7 pm and then a celebration of life will be hosted by his family and the Reverend Virginia Geaman on Thursday beginning at 11:30. They will additionally receive visitors an hour before the celebration. Both events will be held at Hufford Family Funeral Home in Findlay.
To honor Roger’s life, a scholarship will be established in his name in conjunction with the Hancock County Community Foundation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roger D. Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund. Checks can be made out to the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation (with a memo Roger D.
