Mary L. Brooks 77, of Findlay, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Birchaven Village where she was a resident for three months. Mary was born on August 10, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio to the late William and Frances (Jeremy) Gilbert. She was a 1954 graduate of Waite High School, and on September 15, 1954 she married James F. Brooks, her high school sweetheart. Mary was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, a member and past President of St. Michael’s LCBA, member and past President of FCC”s Ladies Golf Association, and was a volunteer Tiny Tot instructor at the YMCA where she was named volunteer of the year in the late 1960’s. She enjoyed golfing and was a former member of the Findlay Country Club. Mary also enjoyed and was adept at many types of crafts and was an accomplished amateur photographer. She loved making gifts of her own creation for family and friends, and had interest in animals. She loved her fur babies. Mary also loved to cook, do gardening, and spend time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jim; children, Jim Brooks, Jr., of Phoenix, AZ, Kathy (Tom) Biniak, of Gulfport, FL, Cheri (Jack) Brinkman, of Delphos, OH, Carol (Devon) Lease, of Findlay, OH and Ken (Kim) Brooks, of Friendswood, TX; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Ann, Joseph, Sharon, John, Rita, and Barbara. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren; and a sister, Theresa.
Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. in the funeral home with MSGR. Michael Hohenbrink officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Bishop Cemetery, Eagle Township.
